Indian Railways is developing an app that will perform several functions, allowing users to access a single app for various services offered by the railways, from booking tickets to checking their PNR status and tracking train progress. According to a report, the new, unified app will combine features supported in various mobile apps offered by the railways – such as IRCTC Rail Connect – while allowing the platform to support monetization to boost revenue.
The Economic Times reported that the Indian Railways is developing a “super app” designed to integrate services offered by apps like UTS (Unreserved Ticket System), Rail Madad and the National Train Inquiry System. To develop the app and operate it for a period of three years, the Railways will have to spend Rs. 90 crores, according to reports.
The new Super App will be developed by the Center for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Railways. “It will improve user experience by reducing the number of downloads required for a complete bouquet of railway services…”Indian Railways apps need an overhaul after taking into account user feedback,” a senior government official told the publication.
Besides offering the functionality of the three apps mentioned above, the Super app can also offer services available through other IRCTC apps such as flight ticket booking, food delivery on trains and ticket purchase management, according to the report.
All the apps offered by Indian Railways have been downloaded millions of times, a super app that offers the services of several apps allows users to quickly access information and perform a variety of tasks without downloading multiple apps. The availability of a single app should make railways’ digital services more accessible to a wider range of users, eliminating the need to browse for multiple apps.
